Ingredients

  • Whole wheat flour - 150 grams
  • Water - 100 ml
  • Salt - 1/4 teaspoon
  • Ghee or oil - for cooking

Steps

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the whole wheat flour and salt.
  2. Gradually add water to the flour mixture, mixing with your hands or a spoon until it forms a soft dough.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rest for 15-20 minutes.
  5. Divide the rested dough into 4 equal portions and roll each portion into a ball.
  6. On a floured surface, roll each ball into a thin circle (about 6-8 inches in diameter).
  7. Heat a tava or non-stick skillet over medium heat.
  8. Place the rolled roti on the hot skillet and cook for about 30 seconds until bubbles form on the surface.
  9. Flip the roti and cook for another 30 seconds, then apply a little ghee or oil on top.
  10. Flip again and press gently with a spatula until it puffs up, cooking for an additional 10-15 seconds.
  11. Remove from the skillet and keep warm in a covered dish. Repeat with the remaining dough.
