Ingredients

  • Lamb shoulder, diced - 300 grams
  • Plain yogurt - 100 grams
  • Onion, finely chopped - 1 medium
  • Garlic, minced - 2 cloves
  • Ginger, grated - 1 inch piece
  • Tomato puree - 2 tablespoons
  • Garam masala - 1 teaspoon
  • Ground cumin - 1 teaspoon
  • Ground coriander - 1 teaspoon
  • Red chili powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Salt - 1 teaspoon
  • Cooking oil - 2 tablespoons
  • Potatoes, peeled and sliced - 200 grams
  • Fresh cilantro, chopped - 2 tablespoons

Steps

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
  2. In a large bowl, combine the diced lamb, yogurt, garlic, ginger, garam masala, ground cumin, ground coriander, red chili powder, and salt. Mix well and let it marinate for at least 20 minutes.
  3. Heat oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté until golden brown.
  4. Add the marinated lamb to the skillet and cook for about 10 minutes until browned on all sides.
  5. Stir in the tomato puree and cook for an additional 5 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
  6. Transfer the lamb mixture to a baking dish and layer the sliced potatoes on top of the lamb evenly.
  7. Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes.
  8. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender and lightly golden.
  9. Garnish with chopped cilantro and serve hot.
