Ingredients

  • Kidney beans (rajma) - 200 grams
  • Boiled potato - 100 grams
  • Onion (finely chopped) - 1 medium
  • Ginger-garlic paste - 1 teaspoon
  • Green chilies (finely chopped) - 1 teaspoon
  • Cilantro (chopped) - 2 tablespoons
  • Cumin powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Coriander powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Garam masala - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Breadcrumbs - 50 grams
  • Salt - to taste
  • Black pepper powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Oil (for shallow frying) - 2 tablespoons

Steps

  1. Soak the kidney beans in water overnight. Drain and rinse the beans, then boil them in fresh water until soft, about 30 minutes.
  2. Once boiled, drain the kidney beans and mash them in a large bowl along with the boiled potato.
  3. Add the finely chopped onion, ginger-garlic paste, green chilies, cilantro, cumin powder, coriander powder, garam masala, salt, and black pepper to the mashed mixture. Mix well until all ingredients are incorporated.
  4. Gradually add breadcrumbs to the mixture until it reaches a consistency that can hold its shape. You may not need all the breadcrumbs.
  5. Divide the mixture into equal portions and shape them into small patties.
  6. Heat oil in a non-stick pan over medium heat. Once hot, add the patties carefully and shallow fry until golden brown on both sides, about 3-4 minutes per side.
  7. Remove the patties from the pan and drain on paper towels to remove excess oil. Serve hot with mint chutney or yogurt dip.
