Ingredients

  • Gram flour (besan) - 100 grams
  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Red chili powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Cumin seeds - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Water - 50 ml
  • Olive oil - 1 tablespoon
  • Mixed bell peppers (chopped) - 100 grams
  • Onion (sliced) - 50 grams
  • Tomato (chopped) - 100 grams
  • Garlic (minced) - 2 cloves
  • Ginger (grated) - 1 teaspoon
  • Oregano - 1 teaspoon
  • Tomato sauce - 100 ml
  • Chickpeas (cooked) - 50 grams
  • Coriander leaves (for garnish) - a handful

Steps

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine gram flour, turmeric powder, red chili powder, cumin seeds, and salt. Gradually add water to form a smooth, pliable dough.
  2. Divide the dough into small cylindrical pieces (gatte) and boil them in salted water for about 10 minutes until they float.
  3. Once cooked, remove the gatte and let them cool before cutting them into bite-sized pieces.
  4. In a pan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add minced garlic and grated ginger, sauté for a minute until fragrant.
  5. Add sliced onions, and cook until translucent. Then, add chopped bell peppers and tomatoes, cooking for another 5 minutes.
  6. Stir in the cooked chickpeas, oregano, and season with salt and red chili powder. Cook for another 2-3 minutes.
  7. Preheat the oven to 220°C (428°F).
  8. Spread tomato sauce evenly on a baking tray or pizza stone. Arrange the gatte pieces on top of the sauce, followed by the sautéed vegetables.
  9. Bake in the preheated oven for about 15 minutes until the base is crispy and the toppings are heated through.
  10. Once done, remove from the oven, garnish with chopped coriander leaves, and serve hot.
