- Gram flour (besan) - 100 grams
- Turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon
- Red chili powder - 1 teaspoon
- Cumin seeds - 1/2 teaspoon
- Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
- Water - 50 ml
- Olive oil - 1 tablespoon
- Mixed bell peppers (chopped) - 100 grams
- Onion (sliced) - 50 grams
- Tomato (chopped) - 100 grams
- Garlic (minced) - 2 cloves
- Ginger (grated) - 1 teaspoon
- Oregano - 1 teaspoon
- Tomato sauce - 100 ml
- Chickpeas (cooked) - 50 grams
- Coriander leaves (for garnish) - a handful
Steps
- In a mixing bowl, combine gram flour, turmeric powder, red chili powder, cumin seeds, and salt. Gradually add water to form a smooth, pliable dough.
- Divide the dough into small cylindrical pieces (gatte) and boil them in salted water for about 10 minutes until they float.
- Once cooked, remove the gatte and let them cool before cutting them into bite-sized pieces.
- In a pan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add minced garlic and grated ginger, sauté for a minute until fragrant.
- Add sliced onions, and cook until translucent. Then, add chopped bell peppers and tomatoes, cooking for another 5 minutes.
- Stir in the cooked chickpeas, oregano, and season with salt and red chili powder. Cook for another 2-3 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 220°C (428°F).
- Spread tomato sauce evenly on a baking tray or pizza stone. Arrange the gatte pieces on top of the sauce, followed by the sautéed vegetables.
- Bake in the preheated oven for about 15 minutes until the base is crispy and the toppings are heated through.
- Once done, remove from the oven, garnish with chopped coriander leaves, and serve hot.
