Ingredients
- Gram flour (besan) - 100 grams
- Yogurt - 100 grams
- Water - 200 ml
- Onion - 1 medium, finely chopped
- Tomato - 1 medium, pureed
- Ginger-garlic paste - 1 teaspoon
- Turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon
- Red chili powder - 1 teaspoon
- Coriander powder - 1 teaspoon
- Cumin seeds - 1/2 teaspoon
- Garam masala - 1/2 teaspoon
- Cooking oil - 2 tablespoons
- Salt - to taste
- Fresh coriander leaves - for garnish
Steps
- In a mixing bowl, combine gram flour, turmeric powder, red chili powder, salt, and water to form a smooth dough. Let it rest for 10 minutes.
- Divide the dough into small portions and roll them into cylindrical shapes (about 2 cm thick).
- In a large pot of boiling water, gently drop the rolled dumplings (gatte) and cook for about 10-12 minutes until they float to the surface. Remove and set aside.
- In a pan, heat oil over medium heat and add cumin seeds. Once they splutter, add chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.
- Stir in ginger-garlic paste and cook for another minute before adding the pureed tomato. Cook until the oil separates from the mixture.
- Add coriander powder, remaining turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt. Mix well and cook for 2-3 minutes.
- Reduce the heat and add yogurt slowly, stirring continuously to avoid curdling. Cook for an additional 5 minutes.
- Add the cooked gatte to the gravy and mix gently. Let it simmer for 5-7 minutes to blend the flavors.
- Finish with garam masala and garnish with fresh coriander leaves before serving.
