Ingredients

  • Puffed rice - 100 grams
  • Chickpea flour (besan) - 50 grams
  • Cooked black lentils (dal) - 50 grams
  • Onion - 1 small, finely chopped
  • Green chili - 1, finely chopped
  • Coriander leaves - 2 tablespoons, chopped
  • Cumin powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Oil - 2 tablespoons (for frying)
  • Water - as needed

Steps

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the puffed rice, chickpea flour, cooked black lentils, chopped onion, green chili, coriander leaves, cumin powder, turmeric powder, and salt.
  2. Gradually add water, a tablespoon at a time, mixing until the mixture can hold together but is not too wet.
  3. Shape the mixture into small balls, about the size of a golf ball.
  4. Heat oil in a deep frying pan over medium heat.
  5. Fry the puffed rice balls in batches until they are golden brown and crispy, about 4-5 minutes per batch.
  6. Remove and drain on paper towels to absorb excess oil.
  7. Serve hot with chutney or yogurt dip.
