Ingredients
- Prawns - 200 grams, cleaned and deveined
- Rice flour - 150 grams
- Fresh grated coconut - 100 grams
- Water - 200 ml
- Onion - 1 small, finely chopped
- Ginger - 1 teaspoon, grated
- Green chili - 1, finely chopped
- Cilantro - 2 tablespoons, chopped
- Salt - 1 teaspoon
- Black mustard seeds - 1/2 teaspoon
- Coconut oil - 1 tablespoon
Steps
- In a bowl, mix the rice flour with 100 ml of water and a pinch of salt until it resembles wet sand. Let it rest for 10 minutes.
- In a pan, heat coconut oil over medium heat. Add mustard seeds and allow them to pop, then add chopped onions, ginger, and green chili. Sauté until the onions are translucent.
- Add the cleaned prawns to the pan and cook until they turn pink, about 3-4 minutes. Stir in the grated coconut, cilantro, and salt. Mix well and remove from heat.
- Take a steaming setup or a puttu maker. Layer the rice flour mixture and prawn-coconut mixture alternately, starting with the rice flour at the bottom.
- Steam the puttu for about 15-20 minutes until cooked through. Once done, carefully remove from the steamer.
- Serve hot, garnished with additional cilantro and a squeeze of lemon juice if desired.
