Ingredients

  • Prawns - 200 grams, peeled and deveined
  • Chickpea flour (besan) - 100 grams
  • Rice flour - 30 grams
  • Onion - 1 medium, thinly sliced
  • Green chili - 1, finely chopped
  • Fresh coriander leaves - 2 tablespoons, chopped
  • Garam masala - 1 teaspoon
  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Red chili powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Salt - to taste
  • Water - as needed
  • Lemon juice - 1 tablespoon
  • Oil - for deep frying

Steps

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine chickpea flour, rice flour, garam masala, turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt.
  2. Add water gradually to the flour mixture, stirring until it reaches a thick batter consistency.
  3. Mix in the prawns, sliced onion, green chili, coriander leaves, and lemon juice until well-coated.
  4. Heat oil in a deep frying pan over medium heat.
  5. Once the oil is hot, carefully drop spoonfuls of the prawn mixture into the oil, frying in batches to avoid overcrowding.
  6. Fry until golden brown and crispy, about 3-4 minutes per side.
  7. Remove the pakoras with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels to remove excess oil.
  8. Serve hot with mint chutney or tamarind sauce.
