- Basmati rice - 150 grams
- Prawns (peeled and deveined) - 200 grams
- Onion (thinly sliced) - 1 medium
- Tomato (chopped) - 1 medium
- Ginger-garlic paste - 1 tablespoon
- Green chilies (slit) - 2
- Biryani masala - 1 tablespoon
- Turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon
- Cilantro (chopped) - 2 tablespoons
- Mint leaves (chopped) - 2 tablespoons
- Lemon juice - 1 tablespoon
- Cooking oil or ghee - 2 tablespoons
- Salt - to taste
- Water - 300 milliliters
Steps
- Rinse the basmati rice under cold water until the water runs clear, then soak it in water for 30 minutes.
- In a large pot, heat the cooking oil or ghee over medium heat and add the sliced onions. Sauté until golden brown.
- Add the ginger-garlic paste and slit green chilies to the pot, and cook for another 2 minutes until fragrant.
- Stir in the chopped tomatoes, turmeric powder, and biryani masala. Cook until the tomatoes soften.
- Add the prawns to the pot and cook until they turn pink, about 3-4 minutes. Season with salt to taste.
- Drain the soaked rice and add it to the pot. Stir gently to combine with the prawn mixture.
- Pour in the water and bring it to a boil. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover the pot, and cook for 15-20 minutes until the rice is cooked and water is absorbed.
- Once done, remove from heat and let it sit covered for an additional 5 minutes.
- Fluff the biryani with a fork, then add chopped cilantro, mint leaves, and lemon juice. Mix gently before serving.
