Ingredients
- Moong dal - 50 grams
- Rice - 50 grams
- Water - 800 ml
- Ginger - 1 inch, grated
- Cumin seeds - 1 teaspoon
- Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
- Turmeric powder - 1/4 teaspoon
- Salt - to taste
- Ghee or oil - 1 tablespoon
- Curry leaves - 5-6 leaves
- Chopped coriander leaves - 2 tablespoons
- Lemon juice - 1 tablespoon
Steps
- Rinse the moong dal and rice together under cold water until the water runs clear.
- In a pot, add the rinsed moong dal, rice, and 800 ml of water. Bring it to a boil over medium heat.
- Once boiling, reduce the heat to low and cover the pot. Let it simmer for about 20 minutes until the dal and rice are soft.
- In a separate pan, heat ghee or oil over medium heat. Add cumin seeds, black pepper, and curry leaves, and sauté for a minute until fragrant.
- Add the grated ginger and turmeric powder, and cook for another minute.
- Pour this tempering into the cooked dal and rice mixture. Add salt to taste and mix well.
- Use a hand blender to puree the soup to your desired consistency, adding more water if needed.
- Garnish with chopped coriander leaves and a squeeze of lemon juice before serving.
