- Cooked rice - 100 grams
- Split yellow moong dal - 50 grams
- Ginger - 1 teaspoon, grated
- Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
- Cumin seeds - 1/2 teaspoon
- Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
- Ghee (clarified butter) - 1 tablespoon
- Coriander leaves - 2 tablespoons, chopped
- Green chili - 1, finely chopped (optional)
- Lettuce leaves - 4 large
- Tomato - 1, sliced
- Cucumber - 1, sliced
- Onion - 1 small, sliced
- Chutney (coconut or mint) - for serving
Steps
- In a pot, cook the split yellow moong dal with 250 ml of water until soft, about 15 minutes.
- Add the cooked rice to the pot with the dal, along with grated ginger, black pepper, cumin seeds, and salt. Mix well and cook for an additional 5 minutes.
- Remove from heat and let cool slightly. Stir in chopped coriander leaves and green chili.
- Once the mixture is cool enough to handle, form it into two patties.
- In a skillet, heat the ghee over medium heat. Fry the patties for about 4-5 minutes on each side until golden brown.
- To assemble the burger, place a patty on a lettuce leaf, top with sliced tomato, cucumber, and onion. Add chutney as desired.
- Wrap the lettuce around the filling and serve immediately.
