Ingredients

  • Rice flour - 1 cup
  • Water - 1 cup
  • Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Turmeric powder - 1/4 teaspoon
  • Oil - 1 tablespoon
  • Mustard seeds - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Cumin seeds - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Onion - 1 medium, finely chopped
  • Ginger - 1 teaspoon, grated
  • Green chili - 1, finely chopped
  • Carrot - 1 small, grated
  • Cabbage - 1/2 cup, finely chopped
  • Coriander leaves - 2 tablespoons, chopped
  • Lemon juice - 1 tablespoon

Steps

  1. In a medium bowl, mix rice flour, salt, turmeric powder, and water to form a smooth dough. Cover and let it rest for 15 minutes.
  2. In a pan, heat oil over medium heat. Add mustard seeds and cumin seeds; let them splutter.
  3. Add chopped onion, ginger, and green chili to the pan. Sauté until the onion turns translucent.
  4. Stir in grated carrot and chopped cabbage. Cook for about 5-7 minutes until the vegetables are tender.
  5. Add chopped coriander leaves and lemon juice to the vegetable mixture. Mix well and remove from heat.
  6. Divide the rested dough into small balls (about the size of a golf ball). Flatten each ball into a small disc using your palms.
  7. Place a spoonful of the vegetable filling in the center of each disc and fold the edges to seal them, forming a dumpling.
  8. Steam the dumplings in a steamer or a pot with a steaming rack for about 15-20 minutes until cooked through.
  9. Serve hot with a dipping sauce or chutney of your choice.
