Ingredients
- Rice flour - 1 cup
- Water - 1 cup
- Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
- Turmeric powder - 1/4 teaspoon
- Oil - 1 tablespoon
- Mustard seeds - 1/2 teaspoon
- Cumin seeds - 1/2 teaspoon
- Onion - 1 medium, finely chopped
- Ginger - 1 teaspoon, grated
- Green chili - 1, finely chopped
- Carrot - 1 small, grated
- Cabbage - 1/2 cup, finely chopped
- Coriander leaves - 2 tablespoons, chopped
- Lemon juice - 1 tablespoon
Steps
- In a medium bowl, mix rice flour, salt, turmeric powder, and water to form a smooth dough. Cover and let it rest for 15 minutes.
- In a pan, heat oil over medium heat. Add mustard seeds and cumin seeds; let them splutter.
- Add chopped onion, ginger, and green chili to the pan. Sauté until the onion turns translucent.
- Stir in grated carrot and chopped cabbage. Cook for about 5-7 minutes until the vegetables are tender.
- Add chopped coriander leaves and lemon juice to the vegetable mixture. Mix well and remove from heat.
- Divide the rested dough into small balls (about the size of a golf ball). Flatten each ball into a small disc using your palms.
- Place a spoonful of the vegetable filling in the center of each disc and fold the edges to seal them, forming a dumpling.
- Steam the dumplings in a steamer or a pot with a steaming rack for about 15-20 minutes until cooked through.
- Serve hot with a dipping sauce or chutney of your choice.
