Ingredients

  • Green gram (moong dal) - 150 grams
  • Onion - 1 medium, finely chopped
  • Ginger - 1 inch, grated
  • Green chili - 1, finely chopped
  • Cilantro (fresh coriander) - 2 tablespoons, chopped
  • Cumin powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Garam masala - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Salt - 1 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Lemon juice - 1 tablespoon
  • Oil - 2 tablespoons (for grilling)
  • Skewers - 4 (soaked in water if wooden)

Steps

  1. Soak the green gram (moong dal) in water for 4-6 hours or overnight.
  2. Drain the soaked lentils and blend them into a coarse paste without adding water.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine the moong dal paste with chopped onion, ginger, green chili, cilantro, cumin powder, garam masala, salt, black pepper, and lemon juice. Mix well.
  4. Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape them into kebabs around the skewers.
  5. Preheat a grill or grill pan over medium heat and brush it with 1 tablespoon of oil.
  6. Place the kebabs on the grill and cook for about 5-7 minutes on each side, or until they are golden brown and cooked through, brushing with remaining oil as needed.
  7. Once cooked, remove from the grill and serve hot with mint chutney or yogurt dip.
