Ingredients

  • Goat trotters - 500 grams
  • Onion - 1 large, finely chopped
  • Ginger - 1 inch piece, grated
  • Garlic - 6 cloves, minced
  • Tomato - 1 medium, chopped
  • Green chili - 1, slit
  • Turmeric powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Red chili powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Garam masala - 1 teaspoon
  • Coriander powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Salt - to taste
  • Cooking oil - 2 tablespoons
  • Fresh coriander leaves - for garnish
  • Water - 4 cups

Steps

  1. Clean the goat trotters thoroughly under running water and soak them in water for 30 minutes.
  2. In a pressure cooker, heat the cooking oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.
  3. Add the minced garlic and grated ginger to the onions and sauté for another 2 minutes until fragrant.
  4. Stir in the chopped tomatoes and cook until they soften, about 3-4 minutes.
  5. Add the turmeric powder, red chili powder, coriander powder, and salt. Mix well and cook for 1-2 minutes.
  6. Drain the trotters and add them to the pressure cooker, stirring well to coat in the spice mixture.
  7. Add the slit green chili and 4 cups of water, then close the lid of the pressure cooker.
  8. Cook on high heat until the pressure builds up, then reduce to low heat and cook for 1.5 hours (3-4 whistles).
  9. Once done, let the pressure release naturally. Open the lid and check if the trotters are tender; they should be falling off the bone.
  10. Sprinkle garam masala and garnish with fresh coriander leaves before serving.
