  • Water - 3 cups
  • Onion - 1 medium, chopped
  • Tomato - 1 medium, chopped
  • Sambar powder - 1 tablespoon
  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Mustard seeds - 1 teaspoon
  • Curry leaves - 8-10 leaves
  • Fenugreek seeds - 1/4 teaspoon

Steps

  1. Wash the toor dal thoroughly and soak it in water for 15 minutes.
  2. In a pot, add soaked toor dal with 2 cups of water, turmeric powder, and a pinch of salt. Cook until soft (about 20 minutes) and mash it slightly.

  7. Add the tamarind paste and the cooked dal to the pan, along with 1 cup of water. Mix and bring to a boil.
  8. Reduce the heat and let it simmer for 5-10 minutes, adjusting salt as needed.
  9. Garnish with chopped coriander leaves and serve hot with rice or dosa.
