Ingredients

  • Pasta (fusilli or penne) - 200 grams
  • Ground lamb - 300 grams
  • Onion (finely chopped) - 1 medium
  • Garlic (minced) - 2 cloves
  • Ginger (grated) - 1 teaspoon
  • Cilantro (chopped) - 2 tablespoons
  • Cumin powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Coriander powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Garam masala - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Red chili powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Salt - to taste
  • Black pepper - to taste
  • Egg - 1 (lightly beaten)
  • Olive oil - 2 tablespoons
  • Tomato puree - 200 grams
  • Heavy cream - 100 ml
  • Water - 500 ml
  • Parmesan cheese (grated) - for serving

Steps

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine ground lamb, half of the chopped onion, garlic, ginger, cilantro, cumin powder, coriander powder, garam masala, red chili powder, salt, black pepper, and the beaten egg. Mix well and form into small kofta meatballs (about 2.5 cm in diameter).
  2. Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the kofta meatballs and cook until browned on all sides, about 8-10 minutes. Remove and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, add the remaining tablespoon of olive oil and the rest of the chopped onion. Sauté until soft and translucent, about 5 minutes.
  4. Stir in the tomato puree and cook for another 2-3 minutes. Add the heavy cream and mix well to combine, allowing the sauce to simmer for about 5 minutes.
  5. Meanwhile, bring a pot of salted water to a boil. Add the pasta and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  6. Add the kofta meatballs back into the sauce, gently coating them. Add the cooked pasta to the skillet and toss to combine all ingredients. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes to heat through.
  7. Serve hot, garnished with grated Parmesan cheese and additional cilantro if desired.
