Ingredients
- Pasta (any shape) - 150 grams
- Red lentils (masoor dal) - 100 grams
- Onion - 1 medium, finely chopped
- Tomato - 1 medium, chopped
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Ginger - 1 inch, grated
- Green chili - 1, slit
- Turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon
- Cumin seeds - 1/2 teaspoon
- Garam masala - 1/2 teaspoon
- Cilantro - 2 tablespoons, chopped
- Olive oil - 2 tablespoons
- Salt - to taste
- Water - 4 cups
Steps
- Rinse the red lentils under cold water until the water runs clear, then soak them for 15 minutes.
- In a pot, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add cumin seeds and let them sizzle for a few seconds.
- Add the chopped onions and sauté until they turn golden brown, about 5-7 minutes.
- Stir in the minced garlic, grated ginger, and slit green chili. Cook for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
- Add the chopped tomato, turmeric powder, and salt. Cook until the tomatoes soften, about 5 minutes.
- Drain the soaked lentils and add them to the pot along with 4 cups of water. Bring to a boil, reduce heat, and let it simmer for 10-15 minutes until the lentils are soft.
- Meanwhile, cook the pasta according to the package instructions in a separate pot. Drain and set aside.
- Once the lentils are cooked, add garam masala and mix well. Adjust the seasoning if needed.
- Combine the cooked pasta with the dal mixture. Stir gently to coat the pasta in the dal.
- Garnish with chopped cilantro and serve hot.
