  • Red lentils (masoor dal) - 100 grams
  • Onion - 1 medium, finely chopped
  • Tomato - 1 medium, chopped
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Ginger - 1 inch, grated
  • Green chili - 1, slit
  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Cumin seeds - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Garam masala - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Cilantro - 2 tablespoons, chopped
  • Olive oil - 2 tablespoons
  • Salt - to taste
  • Water - 4 cups

Steps

  1. Rinse the red lentils under cold water until the water runs clear, then soak them for 15 minutes.
  2. In a pot, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add cumin seeds and let them sizzle for a few seconds.
  3. Add the chopped onions and sauté until they turn golden brown, about 5-7 minutes.
  4. Stir in the minced garlic, grated ginger, and slit green chili. Cook for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
  5. Add the chopped tomato, turmeric powder, and salt. Cook until the tomatoes soften, about 5 minutes.
  6. Drain the soaked lentils and add them to the pot along with 4 cups of water. Bring to a boil, reduce heat, and let it simmer for 10-15 minutes until the lentils are soft.
  7. Meanwhile, cook the pasta according to the package instructions in a separate pot. Drain and set aside.
  8. Once the lentils are cooked, add garam masala and mix well. Adjust the seasoning if needed.
  9. Combine the cooked pasta with the dal mixture. Stir gently to coat the pasta in the dal.
  10. Garnish with chopped cilantro and serve hot.
