Ingredients

  • Paneer - 200 grams
  • Chickpea flour (besan) - 100 grams
  • Rice flour - 2 tablespoons
  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Red chili powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Cumin powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Garam masala - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Salt - 1 teaspoon
  • Water - 100 ml (adjust as needed)
  • Fresh coriander leaves (chopped) - 2 tablespoons
  • Green chilies (finely chopped) - 1 (optional)
  • Oil for deep frying - 500 ml

Steps

  1. Cut the paneer into 2 cm cubes and set aside.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine chickpea flour, rice flour, turmeric powder, red chili powder, cumin powder, garam masala, and salt.
  3. Gradually add water to the dry ingredients, mixing until you achieve a smooth, thick batter that can coat the back of a spoon.
  4. Fold in the chopped coriander leaves and green chilies (if using) into the batter.
  5. Heat oil in a deep frying pan over medium heat until hot.
  6. Dip each paneer cube into the batter, ensuring it is well coated, then carefully drop it into the hot oil.
  7. Fry the pakoras in batches, making sure not to overcrowd the pan, until they are golden brown and crispy, about 4-5 minutes per batch.
  8. Remove the pakoras with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels to remove excess oil.
  9. Serve hot with mint chutney or yogurt dip.
