- Basmati rice - 1 cup
- Paneer - 200 grams
- Onion - 1 medium, finely chopped
- Tomato - 1 medium, chopped
- Bell pepper - 1 medium, chopped
- Green peas - 1/2 cup
- Ginger-garlic paste - 1 teaspoon
- Cumin seeds - 1/2 teaspoon
- Turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon
- Red chili powder - 1 teaspoon
- Garam masala - 1/2 teaspoon
- Salt - to taste
- Oil - 2 tablespoons
- Cilantro - for garnish
- Water - 2 cups
Steps
- Rinse the basmati rice under cold water until the water runs clear, then soak it in water for 15 minutes.
- In a large pan, heat the oil over medium heat and add the cumin seeds. Let them splutter.
- Add the finely chopped onion and sauté until golden brown.
- Stir in the ginger-garlic paste and cook for another minute until fragrant.
- Add the chopped tomato and bell pepper, and cook until the vegetables soften.
- Mix in the turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt; cook for 2 minutes.
- Add the green peas and paneer cubes, mixing gently to coat them with the spices.
- Drain the soaked rice and add it to the pan, gently stirring to combine with the vegetables.
- Pour in 2 cups of water, bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for 15 minutes or until the rice is cooked and water is absorbed.
- Remove from heat and let it sit covered for 5 minutes. Fluff with a fork and garnish with chopped cilantro before serving.
