Ingredients

  • Basmati rice - 1 cup
  • Paneer - 200 grams
  • Onion - 1 medium, finely chopped
  • Tomato - 1 medium, chopped
  • Bell pepper - 1 medium, chopped
  • Green peas - 1/2 cup
  • Ginger-garlic paste - 1 teaspoon
  • Cumin seeds - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Red chili powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Garam masala - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Salt - to taste
  • Oil - 2 tablespoons
  • Cilantro - for garnish
  • Water - 2 cups

Steps

  1. Rinse the basmati rice under cold water until the water runs clear, then soak it in water for 15 minutes.
  2. In a large pan, heat the oil over medium heat and add the cumin seeds. Let them splutter.
  3. Add the finely chopped onion and sauté until golden brown.
  4. Stir in the ginger-garlic paste and cook for another minute until fragrant.
  5. Add the chopped tomato and bell pepper, and cook until the vegetables soften.
  6. Mix in the turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt; cook for 2 minutes.
  7. Add the green peas and paneer cubes, mixing gently to coat them with the spices.
  8. Drain the soaked rice and add it to the pan, gently stirring to combine with the vegetables.
  9. Pour in 2 cups of water, bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for 15 minutes or until the rice is cooked and water is absorbed.
  10. Remove from heat and let it sit covered for 5 minutes. Fluff with a fork and garnish with chopped cilantro before serving.
