Ingredients

  • Onion - 2 medium, thinly sliced
  • Chickpea flour (besan) - 100 grams
  • Rice flour - 25 grams
  • Fresh cilantro - 2 tablespoons, chopped
  • Green chili - 1, finely chopped
  • Cumin seeds - 1 teaspoon
  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Red chili powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Salt - 1 teaspoon
  • Water - 100 ml
  • Oil - for deep frying

Steps

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the chickpea flour, rice flour, cumin seeds, turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt.
  2. Add the thinly sliced onions, chopped cilantro, and green chili to the dry ingredients.
  3. Gradually add water to the mixture, stirring until a thick batter coats the onions evenly.
  4. Heat oil in a deep frying pan over medium heat until hot.
  5. Drop small portions of the onion batter into the hot oil, frying in batches to avoid overcrowding.
  6. Fry the bhajis for about 4-5 minutes or until they are golden brown and crispy, turning them occasionally.
  7. Remove the bhajis with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels to remove excess oil.
  8. Serve hot with chutney or sauce of your choice.
