- Fenugreek seeds - 1/2 teaspoon
- Dried red chilies - 2
- Onion - 1 medium, finely chopped
- Garlic - 3 cloves, minced
- Ginger - 1 inch, grated
- Green chilies - 2, slit
- Coriander powder - 1 tablespoon
- Turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon
- Red chili powder - 1 teaspoon
- Coconut milk - 200 ml
- Tamarind paste - 1 tablespoon
- Salt - to taste
- Fresh coriander leaves - for garnish
Steps
- Heat coconut oil in a pan over medium heat and add mustard seeds and fenugreek seeds. Once they splutter, add dried red chilies.
- Add chopped onions and sauté until they turn golden brown. Then add minced garlic, grated ginger, and slit green chilies, cooking for another 2-3 minutes.
- Stir in coriander powder, turmeric powder, and red chili powder. Cook the spices for about 1 minute to release their aromas.
- Add the fresh fish pieces to the pan and coat them with the spice mixture. Cook for about 2-3 minutes, gently turning the fish.
- Pour in the coconut milk and tamarind paste, stirring gently. Bring the mixture to a simmer and cook for another 10 minutes until the fish is cooked through and the flavors meld.
- Season with salt to taste. Garnish with fresh coriander leaves before serving.
