Ingredients
- All-purpose flour - 200 grams
- Active dry yeast - 5 grams
- Sugar - 5 grams
- Salt - 5 grams
- Yogurt - 50 grams
- Warm water - 100 milliliters
- Olive oil - 1 tablespoon
- Garlic - 1 clove, minced
- Cilantro - 2 tablespoons, chopped (optional)
Steps
- In a small bowl, dissolve the active dry yeast and sugar in warm water and let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour and salt. Make a well in the center and add the yogurt, olive oil, and the yeast mixture.
- Mix until a dough forms, then knead on a lightly floured surface for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 30 minutes or until doubled in size.
- Once risen, punch down the dough and divide it into 4 equal portions. Roll each portion into a ball and then flatten it into an oval shape about 1/4 inch thick.
- Preheat a skillet or tawa over medium-high heat. Cook each naan for about 2-3 minutes on one side until bubbles form, then flip and cook for another 2 minutes until browned and cooked through.
- Optional: In the last minute of cooking, sprinkle minced garlic and chopped cilantro on top and press gently to adhere.
- Serve warm with your favorite curry or dipping sauce.
