Ingredients

  • Mutton (bone-in, cut into pieces) - 400 grams
  • Yogurt - 150 grams
  • Onion (finely sliced) - 1 large
  • Garlic paste - 1 tablespoon
  • Ginger paste - 1 tablespoon
  • Green chili (slit) - 1
  • Cilantro (chopped) - 2 tablespoons
  • Garam masala - 1 teaspoon
  • Red chili powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Cumin powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Coriander powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Cooking oil - 3 tablespoons
  • Salt - to taste
  • Water - 200 milliliters
  • Lemon juice - 1 tablespoon

Steps

  1. In a large bowl, marinate the mutton pieces with yogurt, garlic paste, ginger paste, red chili powder, turmeric powder, cumin powder, coriander powder, and salt. Mix well and let it sit for at least 30 minutes.
  2. Heat oil in a heavy-bottomed pot over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and sauté until they turn golden brown.
  3. Add the marinated mutton into the pot and sear the meat on all sides for about 5-7 minutes.
  4. Add the slit green chili and water, bringing the mixture to a boil. Cover the pot and reduce the heat to low, allowing it to simmer for 40-45 minutes or until the mutton is tender.
  5. Stir in garam masala and lemon juice, cooking for an additional 5 minutes.
  6. Garnish with chopped cilantro before serving.
