Ingredients

  • Button mushrooms - 200 grams, finely chopped
  • Onion - 1 medium, finely chopped
  • Garlic - 3 cloves, minced
  • Ginger - 1 inch piece, grated
  • Green chili - 1, finely chopped
  • Cilantro - 2 tablespoons, chopped
  • Coriander powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Cumin powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Garam masala - 1 teaspoon
  • Salt - 1/2 teaspoon, or to taste
  • Black pepper - 1/4 teaspoon
  • Breadcrumbs - 1/4 cup
  • Egg - 1, beaten
  • Oil - 2 tablespoons, for cooking
  • Burger buns - 2
  • Lettuce - 2 leaves
  • Tomato - 1, sliced
  • Cucumber - 1/2, sliced
  • Mayo - 2 tablespoons (optional)

Steps

  1. Heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the chopped onions and sauté until translucent.
  2. Add minced garlic, grated ginger, and green chili to the pan, cooking for an additional 2 minutes until fragrant.
  3. Stir in the chopped mushrooms, coriander powder, cumin powder, garam masala, salt, and black pepper. Cook until the mushrooms release their moisture and are tender, about 5-7 minutes.
  4. Remove the mixture from heat and let it cool slightly. Once cooled, mix in the chopped cilantro, breadcrumbs, and beaten egg until well combined.
  5. Shape the mixture into two patties. Refrigerate the patties for about 10 minutes to firm up.
  6. In the same pan, heat the remaining oil over medium heat. Cook the patties for 4-5 minutes on each side until golden brown and cooked through.
  7. While the patties are cooking, toast the burger buns lightly in a separate pan or toaster.
  8. Assemble the burgers by placing a lettuce leaf, a mushroom patty, tomato slices, cucumber slices, and mayo on each bun.
