Ingredients

  • Moong Dal (split yellow lentils) - 100 grams
  • Ghee (clarified butter) - 30 grams
  • Sugar - 50 grams
  • Water - 400 ml
  • Cardamom powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Chopped nuts (almonds and cashews) - 30 grams
  • Raisins - 15 grams
  • Milk - 100 ml

Steps

  1. Rinse the moong dal thoroughly under running water and soak it in water for about 30 minutes.
  2. Drain the soaked moong dal and coarsely grind it in a blender with a little water to form a paste.
  3. In a heavy-bottomed pan, heat the ghee over medium heat. Once hot, add the coarsely ground moong dal paste and sauté for about 10-15 minutes until it turns golden brown.
  4. Add the water to the pan and stir well. Cook the mixture on medium heat until it absorbs the water and thickens.
  5. Once the water is absorbed, add the sugar and stir continuously until it dissolves and combines well with the mixture.
  6. Add the milk, cardamom powder, and mix well. Cook for an additional 5-7 minutes until the halwa reaches your desired consistency.
  7. In a separate small pan, lightly roast the chopped nuts and raisins in a little ghee until golden brown, then add them to the halwa and mix well.
  8. Serve the Moong Dal Halwa warm, garnished with additional nuts if desired.
