Ingredients
- Moong Dal (split yellow lentils) - 100 grams
- Ghee (clarified butter) - 30 grams
- Sugar - 50 grams
- Water - 400 ml
- Cardamom powder - 1/2 teaspoon
- Chopped nuts (almonds and cashews) - 30 grams
- Raisins - 15 grams
- Milk - 100 ml
Steps
- Rinse the moong dal thoroughly under running water and soak it in water for about 30 minutes.
- Drain the soaked moong dal and coarsely grind it in a blender with a little water to form a paste.
- In a heavy-bottomed pan, heat the ghee over medium heat. Once hot, add the coarsely ground moong dal paste and sauté for about 10-15 minutes until it turns golden brown.
- Add the water to the pan and stir well. Cook the mixture on medium heat until it absorbs the water and thickens.
- Once the water is absorbed, add the sugar and stir continuously until it dissolves and combines well with the mixture.
- Add the milk, cardamom powder, and mix well. Cook for an additional 5-7 minutes until the halwa reaches your desired consistency.
- In a separate small pan, lightly roast the chopped nuts and raisins in a little ghee until golden brown, then add them to the halwa and mix well.
- Serve the Moong Dal Halwa warm, garnished with additional nuts if desired.
