Ingredients

  • Moong dal (split green gram) - 100 grams
  • Cucumber (chopped) - 1 small
  • Tomato (chopped) - 1 medium
  • Onion (finely chopped) - 1 small
  • Green chili (finely chopped) - 1 small
  • Coriander leaves (chopped) - 2 tablespoons
  • Lemon juice - 2 tablespoons
  • Chaat masala - 1 teaspoon
  • Roasted cumin powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Salt - to taste
  • Black salt - to taste
  • Pomegranate seeds - 2 tablespoons
  • Sev (crispy chickpea noodles) - for garnish

Steps

  1. Rinse the moong dal under cold water until the water runs clear.
  2. Soak the moong dal in water for 2-3 hours. Drain and rinse again.
  3. In a pot, add the soaked moong dal and cover it with fresh water. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for 10-15 minutes until the dal is tender but not mushy.
  4. Once cooked, drain the dal and let it cool to room temperature.
  5. In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooled moong dal, cucumber, tomato, onion, green chili, and coriander leaves.
  6. Add lemon juice, chaat masala, roasted cumin powder, salt, and black salt. Mix everything well to combine.
  7. Garnish with pomegranate seeds and sev just before serving.
  8. Serve chilled or at room temperature.
