Ingredients

  • Besan (Gram Flour) - 100 grams
  • Jaggery - 75 grams, grated
  • Coconut Milk - 100 ml
  • Ghee (or Coconut Oil for vegan) - 2 tablespoons
  • Cardamom Powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Chopped Nuts (Almonds and Cashews) - 30 grams
  • Water - 50 ml

Steps

  1. In a pan, heat the ghee (or coconut oil) on medium heat and add the besan, stirring continuously until it turns golden brown and a nutty aroma arises, about 10-12 minutes.
  2. In a separate saucepan, combine the grated jaggery, coconut milk, and water. Cook on low heat until the jaggery completely dissolves.
  3. Once the jaggery syrup is ready, pour it into the roasted besan mixture while continuously stirring to avoid lumps.
  4. Add the cardamom powder and half of the chopped nuts to the mixture, stirring well to combine.
  5. Cook the mixture for another 5-7 minutes until it thickens and starts to leave the sides of the pan.
  6. Grease a small dish or tray and pour the Mohanthal mixture into it, spreading it evenly. Sprinkle the remaining chopped nuts on top.
  7. Allow it to cool for about 15-20 minutes before cutting it into desired shapes.
