Ingredients
- Besan (Gram Flour) - 100 grams
- Jaggery - 75 grams, grated
- Coconut Milk - 100 ml
- Ghee (or Coconut Oil for vegan) - 2 tablespoons
- Cardamom Powder - 1/2 teaspoon
- Chopped Nuts (Almonds and Cashews) - 30 grams
- Water - 50 ml
Steps
- In a pan, heat the ghee (or coconut oil) on medium heat and add the besan, stirring continuously until it turns golden brown and a nutty aroma arises, about 10-12 minutes.
- In a separate saucepan, combine the grated jaggery, coconut milk, and water. Cook on low heat until the jaggery completely dissolves.
- Once the jaggery syrup is ready, pour it into the roasted besan mixture while continuously stirring to avoid lumps.
- Add the cardamom powder and half of the chopped nuts to the mixture, stirring well to combine.
- Cook the mixture for another 5-7 minutes until it thickens and starts to leave the sides of the pan.
- Grease a small dish or tray and pour the Mohanthal mixture into it, spreading it evenly. Sprinkle the remaining chopped nuts on top.
- Allow it to cool for about 15-20 minutes before cutting it into desired shapes.
