Ingredients

  • Whole wheat flour - 150 grams
  • Fresh fenugreek leaves (methi) - 50 grams, chopped
  • Yogurt - 100 grams
  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Red chili powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Cumin seeds - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Garam masala - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Oil - 1 tablespoon (for dough) + additional for cooking
  • Water - as needed

Steps

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine whole wheat flour, chopped fenugreek leaves, turmeric powder, red chili powder, cumin seeds, garam masala, and salt.
  2. Add 1 tablespoon of oil and mix well until the flour is crumbly.
  3. Gradually add water, kneading to form a soft and pliable dough. Cover and let it rest for 10 minutes.
  4. Divide the dough into 4 equal portions and roll each portion into a ball.
  5. On a floured surface, roll each ball into a thin circle (about 6-7 inches in diameter).
  6. Heat a skillet over medium heat and add a little oil. Cook each thepla for 1-2 minutes on each side until golden brown, adding more oil as needed.
  7. Remove from heat and keep warm. Serve the methi theplas with yogurt on the side.
