- Basmati rice - 150 grams
- Chicken breast - 300 grams, diced
- Fresh methi (fenugreek leaves) - 50 grams, chopped
- Onion - 1 medium, thinly sliced
- Tomato - 1 medium, chopped
- Ginger-garlic paste - 1 tablespoon
- Green chili - 1, slit
- Yogurt - 100 grams
- Biryani masala - 1 tablespoon
- Cumin seeds - 1 teaspoon
- Coriander powder - 1 teaspoon
- Turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon
- Garam masala - 1/2 teaspoon
- Cilantro (coriander leaves) - 2 tablespoons, chopped
- Mint leaves - 2 tablespoons, chopped
- Cooking oil - 2 tablespoons
- Salt - to taste
- Water - 400 ml
Steps
- Rinse the basmati rice under cold water until the water runs clear, then soak it in water for 30 minutes.
- In a bowl, marinate the diced chicken with yogurt, biryani masala, cumin seeds, coriander powder, turmeric powder, and salt. Let it sit for 20 minutes.
- In a large pot, heat the cooking oil over medium heat and add the sliced onions. Sauté until golden brown.
- Add the ginger-garlic paste and green chili to the pot, cooking for an additional 2 minutes until fragrant.
- Stir in the marinated chicken and cook until the chicken is no longer pink, about 5-7 minutes.
- Add the chopped tomatoes and cook until they soften, about 3-4 minutes.
- Add the chopped methi leaves, cilantro, and mint leaves to the pot, mixing well.
- Drain the soaked rice and add it to the pot along with 400 ml of water. Bring to a boil.
- Once boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover the pot with a tight-fitting lid, and cook for 20 minutes or until the rice is fully cooked and the water is absorbed.
- Turn off the heat and let the biryani rest for 10 minutes before fluffing it gently with a fork. Serve hot.
