- Turmeric powder - 1/4 teaspoon
- Salt - to taste
- Oil - 2 tablespoons
- Water - 2 cups
- Cilantro - for garnish, chopped
Steps
- Rinse the basmati rice under cold water until the water runs clear, then soak it in water for 15 minutes before draining.
- In a medium pot, heat the oil over medium heat. Add the cumin seeds and mustard seeds, allowing them to sizzle for about 30 seconds.
- Add the chopped onions and sauté until they turn translucent, about 3-4 minutes.
- Stir in the minced garlic, grated ginger, and slit green chili, cooking for another 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
- Add the chopped tomato and turmeric powder, cooking until the tomatoes soften, about 3-4 minutes.
- Fold in the chopped methi leaves and sauté for another 2 minutes until they wilt.
- Add the soaked and drained rice to the pot, stirring gently to combine with the spices and methi mixture.
- Pour in 2 cups of water and season with salt. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for 15-18 minutes until the rice is cooked and water is absorbed.
- Fluff the rice with a fork and garnish with chopped cilantro before serving.
