Ingredients
- Masoor dal (red lentils) - 100 grams
- Boiled potato - 1 medium (about 150 grams)
- Onion - 1 small, finely chopped
- Ginger - 1 teaspoon, grated
- Green chili - 1, finely chopped
- Coriander leaves - 2 tablespoons, chopped
- Cumin powder - 1 teaspoon
- Garam masala - 1/2 teaspoon
- Salt - to taste
- Black pepper - 1/4 teaspoon
- Rice flour - 2 tablespoons (for coating)
- Oil - for shallow frying
Steps
- Rinse the masoor dal under cold water until the water runs clear, then soak it in water for 2 hours.
- Drain the soaked dal and blend it into a coarse paste using a food processor, adding a little water if necessary.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the mashed boiled potato, blended dal, chopped onion, grated ginger, green chili, coriander leaves, cumin powder, garam masala, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well combined.
- Divide the mixture into equal portions and shape them into round patties.
- Spread the rice flour on a plate and coat each patty lightly with it on both sides.
- Heat a non-stick pan over medium heat and add enough oil to cover the bottom of the pan.
- Once the oil is hot, shallow fry the patties in batches until they are golden brown on both sides, about 4-5 minutes per side.
- Remove the cooked tikki from the pan and place them on a paper towel to absorb excess oil.
- Serve hot with mint chutney or yogurt dip.
