Ingredients
- Masoor dal (red lentils) - 100 grams
- Water - 300 ml
- Ginger - 1 teaspoon, grated
- Green chili - 1, finely chopped
- Cilantro (coriander leaves) - 2 tablespoons, chopped
- Turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon
- Cumin powder - 1/2 teaspoon
- Salt - to taste
- Black pepper - to taste
- Oil (for cooking) - 2 tablespoons
Steps
- Rinse the masoor dal under running water until the water runs clear, then soak it in 300 ml of water for about 15-20 minutes.
- Drain the soaked dal and transfer it to a blender. Add the ginger, green chili, turmeric powder, cumin powder, and salt. Blend until you get a smooth batter, adding a splash of water if necessary.
- Transfer the batter to a mixing bowl and fold in the chopped cilantro. Let it rest for 5 minutes.
- Heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat and add 1/2 tablespoon of oil. Once hot, pour a ladleful of the batter onto the skillet, spreading it into a round shape.
- Cook for about 2-3 minutes or until the edges start to lift and the bottom is golden brown. Flip and cook for another 2-3 minutes on the other side.
- Repeat the process with the remaining batter, adding more oil as needed. Serve hot with yogurt or chutney.
