Ingredients

  • Masoor dal (red lentils) - 100 grams
  • Ghee - 30 grams
  • Almond milk (unsweetened) - 200 ml
  • Erythritol (or preferred low-carb sweetener) - 4 tablespoons
  • Cardamom powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Chopped nuts (almonds and pistachios) - 2 tablespoons
  • Saffron strands - a pinch
  • Vanilla extract - 1/2 teaspoon

Steps

  1. Rinse the masoor dal under cold water until the water runs clear, then soak it in water for 30 minutes.
  2. Drain the soaked dal and blend it with almond milk until smooth, adding a little more almond milk if necessary.
  3. In a non-stick pan, heat the ghee over medium heat and add the blended dal mixture.
  4. Stir continuously for about 10-15 minutes until the mixture thickens and starts to leave the sides of the pan.
  5. Add erythritol, cardamom powder, saffron strands, and vanilla extract to the mixture, stirring well to combine.
  6. Cook for an additional 5-10 minutes on low heat until the halwa is well combined and aromatic.
  7. Garnish with chopped nuts before serving.
