  • Water - 1/2 cup (for batter)
  • Onion, finely chopped - 1 small
  • Green chili, finely chopped - 1
  • Ginger, grated - 1 teaspoon
  • Cilantro, chopped - 2 tablespoons
  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Cumin seeds - 1/2 teaspoon

Steps

  1. Rinse the masoor dal under cold water and soak it in 1.5 cups of water for at least 2 hours or overnight.
  2. Drain the soaked dal and transfer it to a blender. Add 1/2 cup of water and blend until you achieve a smooth batter.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine the dal batter with chopped onion, green chili, ginger, cilantro, turmeric powder, cumin seeds, and salt. Mix well.
  4. Heat a non-stick skillet or griddle over medium heat and lightly grease it with oil.
  5. Pour a ladleful of the batter onto the skillet and spread it into a round shape, about 1/4 inch thick.
  6. Cook for about 3-4 minutes on one side until golden brown, then flip and cook for another 2-3 minutes until the other side is golden.
  7. Repeat the process with the remaining batter, adding more oil as needed.
  8. Serve hot with green chutney or yogurt.
