- Black peppercorns - 2, crushed
- Plant-based milk (such as almond or oat) - 200 ml
- Sweetener (maple syrup or agave) - 1-2 tsp, to taste
Steps
- In a saucepan, bring 500 ml of water to a boil over medium heat.
- Once boiling, add the grated ginger, crushed cardamom pods, cloves, cinnamon stick, and crushed black peppercorns.
- Let the mixture simmer for about 5 minutes to allow the spices to infuse the water.
- Add 2 teaspoons of black tea leaves to the saucepan and simmer for an additional 2-3 minutes, depending on how strong you prefer your tea.
- Remove the saucepan from heat and strain the tea into another pot or directly into cups to remove the spices and tea leaves.
- In the same saucepan, gently heat the 200 ml of plant-based milk until warm but not boiling.
- Combine the strained tea and warmed plant-based milk, stirring well.
- Sweeten with 1-2 teaspoons of maple syrup or agave, adjusting to your taste.
- Serve hot in cups and enjoy your homemade Masala Chai.
