Ingredients

  • Jowar flour - 1 cup
  • Warm water - 1/2 cup (adjust as needed)
  • Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Ghee or oil - for cooking

Steps

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the jowar flour and salt.
  2. Gradually add warm water to the flour mixture, kneading until a smooth, pliable dough forms. If the dough is too dry, add a little more water.
  3. Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rest for about 10 minutes.
  4. Divide the rested dough into 2 equal portions and shape them into balls.
  5. On a flat surface, dust a little jowar flour and flatten one dough ball using your palms.
  6. Using a rolling pin, roll out the dough into a circle about 6-7 inches in diameter, dusting with more flour as needed to prevent sticking.
  7. Heat a tawa or skillet on medium-high heat and place the rolled bhakri on it.
  8. Cook for about 2-3 minutes on one side until brown spots appear, then flip it over.
  9. Cook the other side for 2-3 minutes, pressing gently with a spatula to ensure even cooking.
  10. Optionally, apply a little ghee or oil on top while cooking for added flavor.
  11. Remove from the skillet and keep warm while you repeat the process with the second dough ball.
