Ingredients

  • Fresh fish (Pomfret or Mackerel) - 200 grams, cut into pieces
  • Coconut oil - 1 tablespoon
  • Onion - 1 medium, finely chopped
  • Tomato - 1 medium, chopped
  • Green chilies - 2, slit
  • Ginger - 1 teaspoon, grated
  • Garlic - 3 cloves, minced
  • Curry leaves - 8-10 leaves
  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Red chili powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Fish masala - 1 teaspoon
  • Water - 500 milliliters
  • Coriander leaves - a handful, chopped
  • Salt - to taste
  • Lime - 1, juiced

Steps

  1. Heat coconut oil in a pot over medium heat.
  2. Add chopped onions and sauté until they turn translucent.
  3. Stir in the minced garlic, grated ginger, and slit green chilies, cooking for another minute until fragrant.
  4. Add chopped tomatoes and cook until they soften.
  5. Sprinkle in the turmeric powder, red chili powder, and fish masala, stirring well to combine.
  6. Pour in the water and bring the mixture to a boil.
  7. Once boiling, add the fish pieces and curry leaves, reducing the heat to a simmer.
  8. Cook for about 10-12 minutes, or until the fish is cooked through.
  9. Season with salt to taste and stir in the lime juice.
  10. Garnish with chopped coriander leaves before serving.
