Ingredients
- Fish fillets (preferably mackerel or pomfret) - 200 grams
- Coconut milk - 200 ml
- Onion - 1 medium, finely chopped
- Tomato - 1 medium, chopped
- Garlic - 3 cloves, minced
- Ginger - 1 inch piece, grated
- Green chili - 1, slit
- Curry leaves - 8-10 leaves
- Turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon
- Red chili powder - 1 teaspoon
- Coriander powder - 1 teaspoon
- Garam masala - 1/2 teaspoon
- Salt - to taste
- Oil - 2 tablespoons
- Fresh coriander leaves - for garnish
- Water - 300 ml
Steps
- In a pot, heat the oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onions and sauté until they turn translucent.
- Add the minced garlic, grated ginger, and slit green chili. Sauté for another 2 minutes until fragrant.
- Stir in the chopped tomato and cook until softened, about 3-4 minutes.
- Add turmeric powder, red chili powder, coriander powder, and salt. Mix well and cook for 2 minutes.
- Pour in the water and bring the mixture to a boil. Once boiling, reduce the heat to a simmer.
- Add the fish fillets and curry leaves to the pot. Cook for about 5-7 minutes until the fish is cooked through.
- Stir in the coconut milk and garam masala. Allow it to simmer for another 5 minutes to combine the flavors.
- Taste and adjust seasoning if needed. Remove from heat and garnish with fresh coriander leaves.
- Serve hot as a soup or with a side of rice.
