Ingredients

  • Crab (cleaned and cut into pieces) - 500 grams
  • Coconut oil - 2 tablespoons
  • Onion (finely chopped) - 1 medium
  • Garlic (minced) - 4 cloves
  • Ginger (grated) - 1 inch piece
  • Green chilies (slit) - 2
  • Tomato (pureed) - 1 medium
  • Coconut milk - 200 ml
  • Konkani spice mix (coriander powder, cumin powder, turmeric powder, garam masala) - 2 teaspoons
  • Salt - to taste
  • Fresh coriander leaves (chopped) - for garnish
  • Lemon juice - 1 tablespoon

Steps

  1. Heat coconut oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.
  2. Add minced garlic, grated ginger, and slit green chilies. Sauté for another 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
  3. Stir in the tomato puree and cook for 3-4 minutes until the oil starts to separate from the mixture.
  4. Add the Konkani spice mix and salt, and cook for an additional minute to toast the spices.
  5. Add the crab pieces to the pan, stirring well to coat them with the spice mixture. Cook for 4-5 minutes until the crab starts to turn opaque.
  6. Pour in the coconut milk, bring to a gentle simmer, and cover the pan. Let it cook for 10-12 minutes until the crab is fully cooked and tender.
  7. Remove from heat and stir in lemon juice. Garnish with chopped coriander leaves before serving.
