Ingredients

  • Ground beef (or lamb) - 250 grams
  • Onion - 1 medium, finely chopped
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Ginger - 1 inch piece, grated
  • Fresh cilantro - 2 tablespoons, chopped
  • Breadcrumbs - 2 tablespoons
  • Egg - 1 large
  • Garam masala - 1 teaspoon
  • Cumin powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Coriander powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Salt - 1 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Coconut milk - 200 ml
  • Tomato puree - 100 grams
  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Red chili powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Cooking oil - 1 tablespoon
  • Cheese (grated, optional) - 50 grams

Steps

  1. Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine ground meat, chopped onion, minced garlic, grated ginger, cilantro, breadcrumbs, egg, garam masala, cumin powder, coriander powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix well until all ingredients are evenly incorporated.
  3. Shape the mixture into small meatballs, about 2.5 cm in diameter.
  4. Heat cooking oil in a skillet over medium heat. Fry the meatballs in batches until browned on all sides, about 6-8 minutes. Remove and set aside.
  5. In the same skillet, add tomato puree, coconut milk, turmeric powder, and red chili powder. Stir well and bring to a simmer. Cook for about 5 minutes, allowing the sauce to thicken slightly.
  6. In a baking dish, arrange the meatballs and pour the curry sauce over them. If desired, sprinkle grated cheese on top.
  7. Cover with foil and bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 5-10 minutes until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
  8. Remove from oven and let it cool slightly before serving. Enjoy with rice or naan.
