- Basmati rice - 100 grams
- Yellow split moong dal - 50 grams
- Ghee - 2 tablespoons
- Cumin seeds - 1 teaspoon
- Ginger, grated - 1 teaspoon
- Green chili, slit - 1
- Turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon
- Salt - to taste
- Water - 500 milliliters
- Fresh coriander leaves, chopped - for garnish
Steps
- Rinse the basmati rice and yellow split moong dal under running water until the water runs clear, then soak them together for 15 minutes.
- In a pot, heat the ghee over medium heat. Add cumin seeds and let them splutter.
- Add grated ginger and slit green chili to the pot, sauté for a minute until fragrant.
- Drain the soaked rice and dal, then add them to the pot along with turmeric powder and salt. Stir well to mix everything.
- Pour in 500 milliliters of water and bring the mixture to a boil.
- Once boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover the pot, and let it simmer for 20 minutes or until the rice and dal are cooked and soft.
- Turn off the heat and let it rest for 5 minutes before serving.
- Garnish with chopped fresh coriander leaves and serve hot.
