  • Carrot - 1 medium, diced
  • Green peas - 50 grams
  • Potato - 1 small, diced
  • Ginger - 1 teaspoon, grated
  • Cumin seeds - 1 teaspoon
  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Garam masala - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Salt - to taste
  • Water - 4 cups
  • Ghee (clarified butter) - 1 tablespoon
  • Fresh coriander - for garnish

Steps

  1. Rinse the basmati rice and moong dal under cold water until the water runs clear, then soak them in water for 15 minutes.
  2. In a deep pot, heat ghee over medium heat and add cumin seeds. Once they start to splutter, add grated ginger and sauté for a minute.
  3. Add diced carrots, potatoes, and green peas to the pot and cook for 3-4 minutes until slightly softened.
  4. Drain the soaked rice and dal, then add them to the pot along with turmeric powder, garam masala, and salt. Stir to combine.
