Ingredients

  • Coconut milk - 400 ml
  • Jaggery - 100 g
  • Rice flour - 50 g
  • Fresh grated coconut - 50 g
  • Cardamom powder - 1/4 tsp
  • Water - 100 ml
  • Salt - a pinch
  • Chopped nuts (cashews, almonds) - 2 tbsp

Steps

  1. In a saucepan, combine coconut milk and water, and bring it to a gentle simmer over medium heat.
  2. Add jaggery and a pinch of salt to the coconut mixture, stirring until dissolved.
  3. In a bowl, mix rice flour and cardamom powder, gradually adding the warm coconut mixture to form a smooth dough.
  4. Let the dough cool slightly, then knead it for a couple of minutes until smooth.
  5. In a separate bowl, combine grated coconut and chopped nuts to make the filling.
  6. Take a small portion of dough, flatten it in your palm, place a teaspoon of the coconut filling in the center, and fold the dough over to seal it, forming a ball.
  7. Repeat until all the dough and filling are used, placing the shaped balls on a plate.
  8. In the same saucepan, gently place the kheer kadams into the simmering coconut milk, cooking for about 10-15 minutes until they are cooked through and slightly firm.
  9. Serve warm, garnished with extra chopped nuts and a drizzle of coconut milk if desired.
