Ingredients
- Whole wheat flour - 200 grams
- Potato - 150 grams
- Cumin seeds - 1 teaspoon
- Turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon
- Red chili powder - 1/2 teaspoon
- Salt - 1 teaspoon
- Oil - 2 tablespoons (for dough) + oil for frying
- Water - as needed
- Fresh coriander leaves - 2 tablespoons, chopped
Steps
- Boil the potato until soft, then peel and mash it in a bowl.
- Add cumin seeds, turmeric powder, red chili powder, salt, and chopped coriander leaves to the mashed potato, mixing well to combine.
- In a separate bowl, mix whole wheat flour and salt. Gradually add 2 tablespoons of oil and enough water to form a soft dough. Knead for about 5 minutes.
- Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rest for 10 minutes.
- Divide the dough into small balls (about the size of a golf ball).
- Take one ball and roll it out into a small circle (about 3-4 inches in diameter) on a floured surface.
- Place a spoonful of the potato filling in the center of the rolled dough. Gather the edges to seal the filling inside and gently flatten it.
- Heat oil in a deep pan for frying. Once hot, carefully slide the stuffed puris into the oil and fry until they puff up and turn golden brown on both sides.
- Remove the puris and drain on paper towels. Repeat with the remaining dough and filling.
- Serve hot with your choice of chutney or pickle.
