Ingredients

  • Moong dal (split yellow mung beans) - 100g
  • Onion - 1 medium, finely chopped
  • Tomato - 1 medium, pureed
  • Ginger-garlic paste - 1 tablespoon
  • Green chilies - 1, slit
  • Coconut oil - 2 tablespoons
  • Mustard seeds - 1 teaspoon
  • Cumin seeds - 1 teaspoon
  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Red chili powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Garam masala - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Salt - to taste
  • Cilantro - for garnish
  • Lemon - 1, cut into wedges
  • Keto bread or coconut flour bread - 2 slices

Steps

  1. Rinse the moong dal under cold water until the water runs clear. Soak it in water for about 30 minutes, then drain.
  2. In a pressure cooker, heat coconut oil over medium heat. Add mustard seeds and let them splutter, then add cumin seeds.
  3. Add finely chopped onions and sauté until they turn golden brown. Stir in the ginger-garlic paste and green chilies, cooking for another minute.
  4. Add the pureed tomato, turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt. Cook until the oil separates from the mixture.
  5. Add the soaked moong dal and 2 cups of water to the cooker. Close the lid and cook for 3 whistles on medium heat. Allow the pressure to release naturally.
  6. Once the dal is cooked, open the lid and add garam masala. Mix well and adjust salt if needed. Let it simmer for another 5 minutes.
  7. While the curry simmers, toast the keto bread slices in a pan until golden brown.
  8. Serve the Misal hot, garnished with cilantro and lemon wedges on the side, alongside the toasted keto bread.
