- Masoor dal (red lentils) - 100 grams
- Water - 500 ml
- Onion - 1 medium, finely chopped
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Ginger - 1 teaspoon, grated
- Green chili - 1, finely chopped
- Cilantro - 2 tablespoons, chopped
- Cumin powder - 1 teaspoon
- Coriander powder - 1 teaspoon
- Turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon
- Salt - to taste
- Black pepper - to taste
- Egg - 1, beaten
- Almond flour - 50 grams
- Coconut oil - for frying
- Lettuce leaves - 2 large
- Tomato - 1, sliced
- Cucumber - 1, sliced
- Avocado - 1, sliced
Steps
- Rinse the masoor dal under cold water until the water runs clear, then soak it for 30 minutes.
- In a pot, combine the soaked dal and 500 ml of water. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for about 15 minutes or until soft. Drain any excess water.
- In a pan, heat 1 tablespoon of coconut oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion, garlic, ginger, and green chili. Sauté until the onion is translucent.
- Add the cooked dal to the onion mixture, along with cumin, coriander, turmeric, salt, and pepper. Mix well and cook for another 5 minutes.
- Remove from heat and let the mixture cool slightly. Stir in the chopped cilantro, beaten egg, and almond flour to form a thick batter.
- Divide the mixture into 2 equal portions and shape them into patties.
- In the same pan, add more coconut oil and heat over medium-high heat. Fry the patties for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and crispy.
- To assemble the burger, place each patty on a lettuce leaf, top with tomato, cucumber, and avocado slices. Serve immediately.
