Ingredients

  • Masoor dal (red lentils) - 100 grams
  • Water - 500 ml
  • Onion - 1 medium, finely chopped
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Ginger - 1 teaspoon, grated
  • Green chili - 1, finely chopped
  • Cilantro - 2 tablespoons, chopped
  • Cumin powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Coriander powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Salt - to taste
  • Black pepper - to taste
  • Egg - 1, beaten
  • Almond flour - 50 grams
  • Coconut oil - for frying
  • Lettuce leaves - 2 large
  • Tomato - 1, sliced
  • Cucumber - 1, sliced
  • Avocado - 1, sliced

Steps

  1. Rinse the masoor dal under cold water until the water runs clear, then soak it for 30 minutes.
  2. In a pot, combine the soaked dal and 500 ml of water. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for about 15 minutes or until soft. Drain any excess water.
  3. In a pan, heat 1 tablespoon of coconut oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion, garlic, ginger, and green chili. Sauté until the onion is translucent.
  4. Add the cooked dal to the onion mixture, along with cumin, coriander, turmeric, salt, and pepper. Mix well and cook for another 5 minutes.
  5. Remove from heat and let the mixture cool slightly. Stir in the chopped cilantro, beaten egg, and almond flour to form a thick batter.
  6. Divide the mixture into 2 equal portions and shape them into patties.
  7. In the same pan, add more coconut oil and heat over medium-high heat. Fry the patties for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and crispy.
  8. To assemble the burger, place each patty on a lettuce leaf, top with tomato, cucumber, and avocado slices. Serve immediately.
