- Black pepper - 1/4 teaspoon
- Lemon juice - 1 tablespoon

Steps
- Wash the bitter gourd thoroughly and slice it thinly, discarding the seeds.
- In a bowl, sprinkle salt and lemon juice over the sliced karela and let it sit for 10 minutes to reduce bitterness.
- Rinse the karela slices under cold water and pat them dry with a kitchen towel.
