Ingredients

  • Bitter gourd (Karela) - 200 grams
  • Coconut oil - 2 tablespoons
  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Red chili powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Cumin powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Salt - to taste
  • Black pepper - 1/4 teaspoon
  • Lemon juice - 1 tablespoon
  • Fresh coriander leaves - for garnish

Steps

  1. Wash the bitter gourd thoroughly and slice it thinly, discarding the seeds.
  2. In a bowl, sprinkle salt and lemon juice over the sliced karela and let it sit for 10 minutes to reduce bitterness.
  3. Rinse the karela slices under cold water and pat them dry with a kitchen towel.
  4. In a large frying pan, heat coconut oil over medium heat.
  5. Add the karela slices to the pan and sauté for about 5 minutes until they start to soften.
  6. Sprinkle turmeric powder, red chili powder, cumin powder, salt, and black pepper over the karela, mixing well.
