- Besan (chickpea flour) - 100 grams
- Baking soda - 1/2 teaspoon
- Turmeric powder - 1/4 teaspoon
- Ginger paste - 1 teaspoon
- Green chili, finely chopped - 1/2 teaspoon
- Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
- Yogurt (unsweetened) - 50 grams
- Water - 100 ml
- Lemon juice - 1 tablespoon
- Coriander leaves, chopped - 1 tablespoon
- Coconut oil (for greasing) - 1 teaspoon
- Mustard seeds - 1/2 teaspoon
- Sesame seeds - 1 teaspoon
- Green chutney (for serving) - optional
Steps
- In a mixing bowl, combine besan, baking soda, turmeric powder, ginger paste, green chili, and salt.
- Add yogurt and water to the dry ingredients and mix until smooth and lump-free. Let it sit for 10 minutes.
- Grease a small cake pan with coconut oil and pour the batter into it.
- In a small pan, heat a little oil and add mustard seeds. Once they start to splutter, add sesame seeds and pour this tempering over the batter.
- Steam the batter for 15-20 minutes in a steamer or a large pot with a lid until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Once done, let it cool for a few minutes before slicing into pieces.
- Garnish with chopped coriander leaves and serve with green chutney if desired.
