Ingredients

  • Besan (chickpea flour) - 100 grams
  • Baking soda - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Turmeric powder - 1/4 teaspoon
  • Ginger paste - 1 teaspoon
  • Green chili, finely chopped - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Yogurt (unsweetened) - 50 grams
  • Water - 100 ml
  • Lemon juice - 1 tablespoon
  • Coriander leaves, chopped - 1 tablespoon
  • Coconut oil (for greasing) - 1 teaspoon
  • Mustard seeds - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Sesame seeds - 1 teaspoon
  • Green chutney (for serving) - optional

Steps

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine besan, baking soda, turmeric powder, ginger paste, green chili, and salt.
  2. Add yogurt and water to the dry ingredients and mix until smooth and lump-free. Let it sit for 10 minutes.
  3. Grease a small cake pan with coconut oil and pour the batter into it.
  4. In a small pan, heat a little oil and add mustard seeds. Once they start to splutter, add sesame seeds and pour this tempering over the batter.
  5. Steam the batter for 15-20 minutes in a steamer or a large pot with a lid until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  6. Once done, let it cool for a few minutes before slicing into pieces.
  7. Garnish with chopped coriander leaves and serve with green chutney if desired.
