Ingredients

  • Black chickpeas (Kala Chana) - 100 grams
  • Coconut (grated, fresh) - 30 grams
  • Mustard seeds - 1 teaspoon
  • Cumin seeds - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Green chili - 1, finely chopped
  • Ginger - 1 teaspoon, grated
  • Curry leaves - 10 leaves
  • Salt - to taste
  • Coconut oil - 1 tablespoon
  • Lemon juice - 1 tablespoon

Steps

  1. Soak the black chickpeas in water for 8 hours or overnight.
  2. Drain and rinse the soaked chickpeas, then cook them in boiling water for about 15 minutes until tender but not mushy. Drain and set aside.
  3. In a pan, heat coconut oil over medium heat. Add mustard seeds and let them splutter.
  4. Add cumin seeds, green chili, ginger, and curry leaves to the pan. Sauté for 2 minutes until fragrant.
  5. Add the cooked chickpeas to the pan and mix well. Season with salt and stir for another 2 minutes.
  6. Remove from heat and stir in the grated coconut and lemon juice. Mix well to combine.
  7. Serve warm or at room temperature as a healthy snack.
