Ingredients
- Cabbage - 8 large leaves
- Ground chicken or turkey - 200 grams
- Onion - 1 small, finely chopped
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Ginger - 1 teaspoon, grated
- Cumin powder - 1 teaspoon
- Coriander powder - 1 teaspoon
- Turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon
- Red chili powder - 1/2 teaspoon (adjust to taste)
- Salt - 1/2 teaspoon (or to taste)
- Black pepper - 1/4 teaspoon
- Fresh cilantro - 2 tablespoons, chopped
- Olive oil - 1 tablespoon
- Tomato puree - 100 grams
- Water - 200 milliliters
Steps
- Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Add the cabbage leaves and blanch them for 2-3 minutes until softened. Remove and set aside to cool.
- In a skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion, garlic, and ginger, and sauté until the onion is translucent.
- Add the ground chicken or turkey to the skillet and cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon.
- Stir in cumin, coriander, turmeric, red chili powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix well and cook for another 2-3 minutes.
- Remove the skillet from heat and fold in the chopped cilantro. Allow the mixture to cool slightly.
- Take a cabbage leaf and spoon about 2-3 tablespoons of the meat mixture into the center. Fold in the sides and roll tightly to enclose the filling. Repeat with remaining leaves and filling.
- In a separate pot, combine the tomato puree and water. Bring to a simmer and season with salt and pepper.
- Place the cabbage rolls seam-side down in the pot with the tomato sauce. Cover and cook on low heat for about 20-25 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
- Serve warm, drizzled with the tomato sauce and garnished with additional cilantro if desired.
